Sicer’s bespoke service is a structured process that combines technical consulting, applied research and ceramic surface development to support manufacturers in the design and industrialization of new materials and decorative solutions.
Today, ceramic surfaces require an advanced design approach, capable of integrating design, technical performance and increasingly complex industrial constraints. At Sicer, technical consulting is an integral part of the material design process for ceramic surfaces.
1.
Applied research and customized development
Each project begins with a deep understanding of the customer’s technical, production and aesthetic requirements. Through applied research and laboratory testing, Sicer develops tailor-made materials and solutions for the creation of distinctive and industrially reliable ceramic surfaces.
The objective is to adapt formulations, applications and process parameters to specific plant conditions, ensuring stable and repeatable results. Applied research enables:
- improvement of material technical performance
- optimization of compatibility with different production cycles
- consistency in color stability and repeatability
- development of new surfaces with high aesthetic value
2.
Design and development of ceramic surfaces
Designing a ceramic surface requires a constant dialogue between creativity and technical feasibility. For this reason, Sicer integrates graphic, material and technological expertise into a co-design process involving designers, technicians and production managers.
Each aesthetic concept is analyzed from the earliest stages to ensure compatibility with materials, digital decoration technologies and production parameters. This approach makes it possible to develop ceramic surfaces that maintain consistency between design vision and industrial outcome.
3.
Technical assistance and production support
Sicer’s international presence and dedicated teams enable the company to provide dynamic, timely and continuous technical support. We work closely with ceramic production departments to:
- analyze production line conditions and application parameters
- support testing phases, start-ups and production changes
- optimize aesthetic results and technical performance
- reduce process variability and critical issues
The goal is to support customers from the testing phase through to full industrial stabilization.
How laboratories support bespoke projects
Technology Lab
The Technology Lab supports technical consulting projects by analyzing the behavior of materials and industrial processes. Here, the technical team tests formulations, application parameters and firing performance to verify the compatibility of developed solutions with real production conditions in ceramic plants.
A key part of the work involves analyzing potential critical interactions between different raw materials. The laboratory evaluates material interactions, identifying possible incompatibilities and defining the most suitable solutions based on project objectives and production constraints. The goal is to transform design concepts into reliable and repeatable technical solutions.
Digital R&D Lab
The Digital R&D Lab is involved in projects that include digital decoration technologies. The laboratory develops digital inks, materials and glues, evaluating their application behavior, parameters, printing precision and integration within production processes. Through research activities and application testing, the team helps ensure industrial consistency and high aesthetic quality of ceramic surfaces.
R&D Lab
The R&D Lab operates in the final development phase of the project, transforming solutions validated in the laboratories into complete and industrially scalable ceramic surfaces. Here, materials take shape through advanced application testing, process parameter definition and performance optimization on the production line.
At this stage, the contribution of the research team is essential. Our R&D Lab is composed of highly qualified specialists who, thanks to a clear vision of industry trends, present innovative solutions to clients and guide them through a research and development path that begins at Sicer and continues within the production plant, ensuring continuity between testing and manufacturing.
Within Bespoke projects, this laboratory represents the connection point between research and production: an environment where design, application and industrialization converge to deliver concrete, stable and repeatable results at an industrial scale.
DBU Lab
The DBU Lab represents the space where ceramic decoration, understood as a true enhancement of the surface, takes shape, including third firing applications and beyond. In this laboratory, technicians and designers work together to develop decorative solutions that combine visual identity, material effect and industrial feasibility. The DBU Lab supports bespoke projects by exploring new combinations of materials, effects and graphics.
