Digital Structure:
digital material for structured ceramic surfaces
Digital Structure series by Sicer includes digital materials designed for the creation of ceramic structures and textures directly within the glazing line.
Applied through digital technology, these materials enable the generation of controlled reliefs and textured surfaces coordinated with digital graphics and colors, allowing the development of ceramic surfaces with a high level of aesthetic realism.
Digital Structure technology enables ceramic manufacturers to create complex and natural surface structures, reproducing effects such as:
- wood
- stone
- concrete
- contemporary textured materials
Thanks to perfect integration with inkjet digital decoration systems, Digital Structure ensures high production flexibility regardless of the type of plant used.
Digital Structure technology for ceramic textures
Digital Structure is a digital reserving/texturinging material applied directly within the glazing line.
The material can be digitally deposited:
- at the beginning of the glazing line
- before or after engobe application
- or after digital printing
Once applied, the product prevents the adhesion of subsequently applied materials, generating reliefs and thickness variations along the edges of the graphic.
This process allows the creation of textured surfaces perfectly coordinated with the digital design, enhancing the realism of ceramic surfaces.
High-resolution structured ceramic surfaces
Digital Structure range is designed for the production of high-resolution, anti-reflective ceramic surfaces.
The integration of digital structure and graphic decoration enables:
- precise textured reliefs
- textures perfectly aligned with digital graphics
- controlled three-dimensional effects
- natural and anti-reflective surfaces
This technology significantly increases the level of realism of contemporary ceramic surfaces.
Digital Structure available formulations
Digital Structure range includes different formulations designed to achieve varying levels of surface structure and relief.
- SDS030 – Digital reserving agent (non-textured)
Application: 40–50 g/m²
A solid-free formulation that prevents the adhesion of subsequently applied materials, creating subtle reliefs along the edges of the graphic.
- SDS061 – White digital structuring material
Application: 60–80 g/m²
A textured formulation designed for the creation of structured surface effects. - SDS063 – Transparent/neutral digital structuring material
Application: 60–80 g/m²
A version developed for more subtle textured structures, seamlessly integrated with the graphic. - SDS091 – Ultra white digital structuring material
Application: 60–80 g/m²
A high-coverage formulation designed to achieve more pronounced structural effects.
These formulations allow the ceramic surface structure to be tailored to different aesthetic and production requirements.
Integration with digital decoration processes
Digital Structure is designed to integrate seamlessly into modern ceramic digital decoration processes.
The technology can be used in different production line configurations and combined with:
- glazes and base coats
- engobes (optional)
- digital color printing
- final protective applications
For application, the use of high-discharge (L-type) digital printheads, such as Dimatix SG1024L or Seiko RC1536L, is recommended to ensure precise and stable material deposition.
